Grand Avenue Bridge   Construction Update
The construction activity for the week of: February 29 – March 6, 2016
  • Project Message:  The Grand Avenue Bridge project is on pace to meet our first project milestone. This is a win for the entire community and project team. Milestone 1 includes completion of the south causeway and installation of the temporary pedestrian walkway along the traffic bridge.
  • Traffic Impacts: I-70 Exit 116 eastbound off-ramp will be one lane configuration for several months.
  • New: Beginning Friday Match 4 at 6 pm through March 6 both eastbound on and off ramps for Exit 116 will be closed. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to 1-70 Exit 114.
  • State Hwy 82 Grand Avenue Bridge from 6th to 8th Street will have periodic closures in each direction from 9 am to 3 pm, contractor will be working on the deconstruction of the pedestrian bridge.
  • River Closures:  The Colorado River will be closed at the Grand Avenue Bridge beginning March 1 to March 13. On Sunday March 6 the river will be open, no construction activity is anticipated. The closure is due to overhead crane work.
  • The Glenwood Trail crossing at Two Rivers Park and I-70 Exit 116 is closed for approximately 4 weeks.
  • Upcoming meeting:  Attention River Users, WARR (Water Resource and Recreation) meeting at Glenwood Canyon Brew Co., February 29, 4:30 pm.

Grand Avenue Bridge   Construction Update
The construction activity for the week of: February 22 – 28, 2016
  • New: I-70 Night time closures: Due to the canyon closures the contractor was able to finish work early. The night time closures is no longer necessary.
  • Utility work begins between 7th St. and 8th St.Installing/relocating below ground utilities, fiber optic and new electrical lines for lighting. Excavation for this part of the project will begin February 29.
  • New: On February 20, SH82 will be closed from 6th to 8th Streets will be done to one lane in each direction from 7 am to 5 pm. There is potential for Sunday work as the contractor works to meet the first project milestone.
  • 7th St will be closed from Colorado Ave. to Cooper Ave.
  • River Street will have restricted vehicular access. traffic control in the area.
  • Interstate 70 eastbound at exit 116 will be reduced to one lane. This will be the condition throughout Phase II.
  • Through the end of the month, the Grand Avenue Bridge from 6th to 8th Street will have periodic variable lane closures in each direction from 9 am to 3 pm. The contractor is working to install the temporary walkway along the existing traffic bridge.

The construction activity for the week of: February 15 – 21, 2016
  • Pedestrians should access the pedestrian bridge from Cooper St. using the current pedestrian bridge stairs. Get walking: it is a good time to stroll the pedestrian bridge and view the causeway and caisson construction.
  • The potential dates for the night closure of I-70 in both directions are February 20, 21, 22 and 23.
  • 7th Street will be closed both directions from Colorado Ave. to Cooper St.
  • River Street will have restricted vehicular access. traffic control in the area.
  • Interstate 70 eastbound at exit 116 will be reduced to one lane. This will be the condition throughout Phase II.

  • 7th Street will be closed both directions from Colorado Ave. to Cooper St.
  • River Street will have restricted vehicular access. traffic control in the area.

  • The contractor will be demo the catwalk from the existing pedestrian bridge to the traffic bridge. this activity will take place at night between 9 pm to 6 am. We anticipate a full closure on 7th St. during this activity.

Grand Avenue Bridge   Construction Update
The construction activity for the week of: February 1 – 7, 2016
  • Starting January 27, I-70 eastbound at exit 116 will be reduced to one lane of traffic. This closure will be until the end of the year.
  • There will be restricted vehicular traffic on River Street as the contractor begins to mobilize in the Glenwood Hot Springs parking area. This parking lot will be closed starting February 1, 2016. Parking for the Glenwood Hot Springs will be in the old Bighorn Toyota Lot with shuttle service to the Glenwood Hot Springs
  • Later this week the contractor will be closing 7th Street from 9 pm to 6 am for removal of the catwalk from the existing pedestrian bridge to the traffic bridge.
Traffic impacts:  7th Street, closure from Colorado Avenue to Cooper Street and Wing Street closure.
  • Beginning Monday January 18, 7th St. will be closed from Colorado Avenue to Cooper Avenue from 7am to 5 pm.
  • The eastbound lane of 7th St. will be open after working hours, 5 pm to 7 am.
  • Beginning March 1, 2016, Wing Street will close permanently.

Grand Avenue Bridge   Construction Update
The construction activity for the week of: January 25 -31, 2016
  • Starting January 27, I-70 eastbound at exit 116 will be reduced to one lane of traffic. This closure will be until the end of the year.
  • On Monday January 25 through Thursday January 28, SH 82 6th Avenue to 8th Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction, 9 am to 3 pm off peak hours. CDOT will be removing trees to prepare for the new pedestrian bridge.
  • Anticipate some construction work on the weekends. Due to the recent snowfall some construction will done on the weekends to stay with the schedule. The contractor must meet the deadline of March 1, 2016 for fish spawning season.
Traffic impacts:  7th Street, closure from Colorado Avenue to Cooper Street and Wing Street closure.
  • Beginning Monday January 18, 7th St. will be closed from Colorado Avenue to Cooper Avenue from 7am to 5 pm. Wing Street will be closed at 8th St. to 7th St. during this period for vehicular traffic.
  • The eastbound lane of 7th St. will be open after working hours, 5 pm to 7 am.
  • Beginning March 1, 2016, Wing Street will close permanently.

The construction activity for the week of: January 18 – 24, 2016
  • Utility work: temporary storm drain relocation and permanent waterline installation
  • Construction of southern causeway: Up to 75 trucks will be dumping & hauling.
  • Shoring and excavation work at the south bridge pier
  • Construction hours will be 7 am to 5 pm every day. There will be no construction activity during the weekends.
Traffic impacts:  7th Street, closure from Colorado Avenue to Cooper Street and Wing Street closure.
  • Beginning Monday January 18, 7th St. will be closed from Colorado Avenue to Cooper Avenue from 7am to 5 pm. Wing Street will be closed at 8th St. to 7th St. during this period for vehicular traffic.
  • The 7th St. closure from Colorado Avenue to Cooper Avenue will be a “rolling closure”. This area is a highly affected project area.
  • Beginning March 1, 2016, Wing Street will close permanently.

Grand Avenue Bridge Colorado River Safety Advisory – JAN – MARCH 2016

ATTENTION COLORADO RIVER RAFTERS, FISHING, AND RECREATION COMMUNITY

The Grand Avenue Bridge (GAB) project begins construction along the river bank of the Colorado River on the south bank and on the north bank from the Glenwood Springs Amtrak Station to the City of Glenwood Springs wastewater pump station. Beginning Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 construction activities will be ongoing in this area throughout the year along the riverbank, however, work in the Colorado River will finish by March 1, 2016. The contractor is working in the Colorado River at this time because of low recreational use and timing of the fish spawning period.

Grand Avenue Bridge   Construction Update
The construction activity for the week of: January 11 – 17, 2016
  • Completion of the railroad crossing
  • Construction of southern causeway: Up to 75 trucks will be dumping & hauling.
  • Removal of public restrooms and existing walls under existing GAB on north side of 7th Street.
  • Construction hours will be 7 am to 5 pm every day. There will be no construction activity during the weekends.
Traffic impacts:  Expect 7th Street periodic closures to allow trucks access, these closures will be ongoing for the next 5-6 weeks. The north lane of 7th Street will be closed from Colorado Ave to Cooper Ave. will be closed during this 5-6 weeks period; the south lane will be open to eastbound traffic only.
