Grand Avenue Bridge Updates
Traffic Impacts and Construction Activity for the week of April 17 to April 22
New Traffic Impacts:
Roadwork begins on Exit 114:

Expect a one lane configuration at the Exit 114 interchange. the westbound on-ramp and the north roundabout will be in a one lane configuration throughout the summer construction season. Exit 116 will remain open.
Grand Avenue Bridge:
Expect one lone closures on the Grand Avenue Bridge from 9 am to 3 pm, daily.
Pedestrian and Trails:
Two Rivers Park pedestrian bridge will be closed on Monday April 18 to Wednesday April 20.

Grand Avenue Bridge:

On the Grand Avenue Bridge:
Friday, March 25 – One lane closed in each direction from 9 am to 3 pm
Tuesday, March 29 – One lane closed in each direction 9 am to 3 pm
I-70 Eastbound closure at Exit 116:
I-70 eastbound lanes including the eastbound on-ramp will be closed on Wednesday March 30 11:30 pm to Thursday March 31 4 am.
Exit 116:
Eastbound on-ramp will remain closed through March 31. Eastbound off-ramp will remain in a one lane configration through March 31

Grand Avenue Bridge   Construction Update
The construction activity for the week of: March 18 – March 25, 2016
Project Message from the Public Information Team:  Utility work continues through the end of the week near I-70 Exit 116. through the week intermittent closures will occur on the eastbound on and off ramps. A one lane configuration on SH82 under the interstate approaching the 116 ramps will also be in effect beginning Friday at 6 pm. Crews continue to work on the bridge foundations and substructure activities in the Glenwood Hot Springs parking lot. Utility work also continues along the west wing street in the 7 St. shopping plaza.
Traffic Impacts:
  1. Beginning Friday, March 18, 6 pm to March 26, both the eastbound on-ramp and off-ramp will be in a one-lane configuration. the one lane configuration begins approaching the exit ramps in both directions under I-70.
  2.  Beginning Monday, March 21 to Friday March 26, the I-70 eastbound on-ramp will be closed.
  3. On Wednesday, March 23, Exit 116 eastbound on-ramp and off-ramp will be closed from 12 noon to 4 pm for paving underneath the interstate.
  4. On Wednesday, March 23, 12 am (midnight) to 4 am, I-70 will be closed for all eastbound traffic at Exit 116. Motorists should exit early at the West Glenwood exit 114 for travel to Aspen on SH82. No access to the Glenwood Canyon during this closure.
  5. 7th St. will be closed from Colorado Ave. to Cooper Ave. until further notice.

Grand Avenue Bridge   Construction Update
The construction activity for the week of: March 7 – March 13, 2016
  • Project Message:  They have an action pack week on the Grand Avenue Bridge. Please slow down for the cone zone in all construction areas.
  • Traffic Impacts::  I-70 Detour: The evening of Wednesday, Mar. 9th, I-70 at exit 116 will be detoured onto 6th Street. Both eastbound and westbound lanes will be detoured beginning at 8:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. in a one-lane configuration in both directions.  I-70 traffic will be detoured onto 6th St. through a temporary break in the I-70 barrier near Yampah Vapor Caves. The detour is necessary for safety critical overhead work, as the contractor is removing a 108-foot section of the of the Glenwood Springs pedestrian bridge.
  • Updated:  I-70 Exit 116 EB Closure: Beginning Friday Mar. 4th at 10:00 a.m. through Monday, Mar. 7th at 6:00 a.m. both the eastbound onramp and eastbound off ramps will be closed. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to I-70 Exit 114.  This work is necessary for a storm drain project.
    ALTERNATE ROUTE TO I-70 EB: Motorists traveling westbound on CO 82 can utilize the I-70 westbound on-ramp at exit 116 or US 6 westbound to exit 114 to reconnect to I-70 eastbound through the roundabouts
  • State Hwy 82 Grand Avenue Bridge from 6th to 8th Street will have periodic closures in each direction from 9 am to 3 pm, contractor will be working on the deconstruction of the pedestrian bridge.
  • River Closures:  The Colorado River will be closed at the Grand Avenue Bridge beginning March 1 to March 13. On Sunday March 6 the river will be open, no construction activity is anticipated. The closure is due to overhead crane work.
  • The Glenwood Trail crossing at Two Rivers Park and I-70 Exit 116 is closed for approximately 4 weeks.

  • Project Message:  The Grand Avenue Bridge project is on pace to meet our first project milestone. This is a win for the entire community and project team. Milestone 1 includes completion of the south causeway and installation of the temporary pedestrian walkway along the traffic bridge.
  • Traffic Impacts: I-70 Exit 116 eastbound off-ramp will be one lane configuration for several months.
  • New: Beginning Friday Match 4 at 6 pm through March 6 both eastbound on and off ramps for Exit 116 will be closed. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to 1-70 Exit 114.

  • New: I-70 Night time closures: Due to the canyon closures the contractor was able to finish work early. The night time closures is no longer necessary.
  • Utility work begins between 7th St. and 8th St.Installing/relocating below ground utilities, fiber optic and new electrical lines for lighting. Excavation for this part of the project will begin February 29.
  • New: On February 20, SH82 will be closed from 6th to 8th Streets will be done to one lane in each direction from 7 am to 5 pm. There is potential for Sunday work as the contractor works to meet the first project milestone.
  • 7th St will be closed from Colorado Ave. to Cooper Ave.
  • River Street will have restricted vehicular access. traffic control in the area.
  • Interstate 70 eastbound at exit 116 will be reduced to one lane. This will be the condition throughout Phase II.
  • Through the end of the month, the Grand Avenue Bridge from 6th to 8th Street will have periodic variable lane closures in each direction from 9 am to 3 pm. The contractor is working to install the temporary walkway along the existing traffic bridge.

Grand Avenue Bridge   Construction Update
The construction activity for the week of: February 15 – 21, 2016
  • Pedestrians should access the pedestrian bridge from Cooper St. using the current pedestrian bridge stairs. Get walking: it is a good time to stroll the pedestrian bridge and view the causeway and caisson construction.
  • The potential dates for the night closure of I-70 in both directions are February 20, 21, 22 and 23.
  • 7th Street will be closed both directions from Colorado Ave. to Cooper St.
