US 6 New Castle Roundabout Project Weekly Update:  August 12 - 16

On Saturday, August 10, crews will be working from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. with no time restrictions for traffic control. Moving forward, drivers should anticipate the potential for Saturday workdays.

Concrete preparation for concrete curb and gutter on the southwest corner of the roundabout intersection on US 6 continues this week followed by pavement into the roundabout truck apron.

At the southeast corner of the intersection crews will be pouring concrete Wednesday and Thursday.

Additional work this week includes pipe and inlet trenching on Castle Valley Boulevard between the Kum & Go station and the median. The lower access driveway between the station and Castle Valley Boulevard will be closed during this work. The upper access for the station and McDonald’s will remain open. 

There is currently only one lane northbound from the I-70 off ramp through the intersection with flaggers assisting with traffic flow in the evening peak hours. 

The project would like to alert drivers to the start of school Monday, August 12. Please be aware of the increase in traffic during the morning and late afternoon and plan your travel accordingly. 

Motorists driving westbound on US 6 or eastbound on Castle Valley Boulevard during peak commuter hours from 4-6 p.m. may encounter longer delays due to flaggers needing to clear the queue of vehicles exiting I-70 due to the safety concerns it creates when vehicles line up on the shoulder of westbound I-70 in the evenings. Please practice patience as we continue to work to deliver a safe project.
