3.0 “Sweet 16” Pickleball Tournament, February 11 (Ages 16+)
In conjunction with Carbondale and Glenwood Springs Recreation Department, New Castle Recreation is hosting a  co-ed 3.0 pickleball tournament in “sweet 16” format. Each player will play nine game with nine different partners to determine the “King” and “Queen” of the court.  Carbondale will be hosting the 3.5 and Glenwood Springs the 4.0-4.50 skill level.  for the top three players.  Register at the location of your skill level.Cost: $20, Saturday, 9:00 am-1:00 pm, Location: Riverside Middle School
Pickleball Open Play (Ages 16+)
What’s Pickleball you say? It is a combination of tennis, racquetball and ping-pong.  Played on a 20×44 ft. court (indoors or out),  The great thing about Pickleball is that it takes such little time to learn how to play.  After your first twenty minutes of instruction you are well on your way to enjoying a new recreational sport. Cost: $20/$25 after the session has started, February 1-March 27, Wednesdays, 7:00-9:00 pm, Elk Creek Elementary School.
Madden NFL 17 Tourney (Ages 10-17)
This event provides players a great opportunity to compete against other video gamers and test their  abilities in a fun, organized tournament using the PS4 game console. Refreshments provided. Prizes to top winners.   Online registration  required by February 3 in order to play. Cost: FREE but registration is required; Day/Time: Saturday, February 4, 9:00 am-3:00pm; Location: Community Center
Friday Art Adventures: Each week participants will dive into variety of imaginative 2D and 3D mixed media art projects.  Students will enjoy drawing, painting, foil relief, weaving, sewing, paper mache, cardboard sculpture design and more. Each monthly session will offer new creative themes and projects. Cost: $58 for Sessions 2, February 3-24; Days/Times: Fridays, 2:00-3:30 pm; Location: Community Center

Grand Avenue Bridge Project Updates

Sixth Street Lane CLOSURES 9 AM – 3 PM
For the next few weeks, expect intermittent one-lane closures on Sixth Street from the GAB to Laurel Street.
Periodic one-lane closures on the GAB through February, M-F
Motorists should anticipate periodic one-lane closures northbound and southbound. Some restrictions are in place for peak hours. These lane closures are necessary for crews to access construction on the traffic bridge walls in the downtown area.
Steel Girders arrive mid-February
Steel girders for the new traffic bridge are arriving mid-February. Stay tuned for a girder erection schedule and I-70 night detour information.
