New Castle Recreation

Yoga For Beginners: Join local fitness instructor Michelle Fite for a basic introduction to yoga including sun salutations, standing and seated postures, restorative type yoga & flow. Circuit & TRX Training: Join fitness instructor Victor Mauro from Exclusive Athletic Club in New Castle for a small group training session including circuit training, TRX, Maxxifit, and other functional movements. Intro to Lacrosse Camp (Ages 8-12yrs)
Want to try the fastest growing sport in the valley? This new program will teach participants the fundamental skills of throwing, catching, scooping,  and cradling. Grand Avenue Bridge Updates

An I-70 night detour is scheduled for Saturday, May 20 from 8 PM to 6 AM. The Grand Avenue Bridge will be closed during this time. This I-70 night detour is weather dependent.

US Hwy 6 Paving Update
Because of cold, wet weather, crews will continue paving US Hwy 6 through the end of next week. Some areas of US Hwy 6 will be in an alternating one-lane configuration while crews pave the highway. Delays are anticipated from 6 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Friday. Temporary traffic holds are anticipated on side streets.

Business access will be maintained during this time, with a brief hold in front of each business as crews lay new asphalt. Pedestrian access is maintained on sidewalks along US Hwy 6.

Nightly Street Closures for Traffic Signal Work – Next Two Weeks
Ninth Street Closures 5/22 to 5/25: Monday night, May 22 through Thursday night, May 25 from 8 PM to 6 AM, crews will close Ninth Street from Colorado to Grand avenues and Cooper to Grand avenues.

Grand Avenue Bridge Updates

Beginning Tuesday, May 16, Eighth Street between Cooper and Grand avenues and Eighth Street between Colorado and Grand avenues will be closed for approximately four days.
The following week, Ninth Street between Cooper and Grand avenues and Ninth Street between Colorado and Grand avenues will be closed for approximately four days.

US Hwy 6 Mill and Fill Begins Monday, May 8
Monday, May 8 through approximately May 19, some areas of US Hwy 6 will be in an alternating one-lane configuration while crews pave the highway. Traffic control will maintain two lanes when possible. Fifteen-minute delays are anticipated from 6 AM to 7 PM, Monday through Friday. Temporary traffic holds are anticipated on side streets.
Business access will be maintained during this time, with a brief hold in front of each business as crews lay new asphalt. Pedestrian access is maintained on sidewalks along US Hwy 6. Weekend work is also possible.


I-70 Exit 116 Eastbound On-ramp Closures
The Exit 116 eastbound off-ramp is OPEN during this time.
The I-70 Exit 116 eastbound on-ramp will be CLOSED from 5:30 AM to 9:30 AM, Monday through Friday. For I-70 eastbound access, motorists are advised to use westbound I-70 to Exit 114 and turn around at the interchange.

Grand Avenue Bridge Updates

The I-70 night detour is rescheduled for Tuesday, Apr. 25 from 8 PM to 6 AM. All I-70 traffic (eastbound and westbound) will be detoured onto east Sixth Street. Both eastbound and westbound traffic will merge into a one-lane configuration and will be detoured through Sixth Street in Glenwood Springs via a break-in-barrier on I-70 near Yampah Vapor Caves. The Grand Avenue Bridge will be closed during this time.

Eastbound I-70 traffic wishing to access Glenwood Springs and CO-82 to Aspen should exit early at the west Glenwood Exit 114.
Westbound I-70 traffic wishing to access Glenwood Springs will exit at the I-70 break-in-barrier prior to Exit 116 and will detoured via US Hwy 6.

Grand Avenue Bridge Update
I-70 Approaching Exit 116 Intermittent 15-minute Holds
Monday to Wednesday (4/17-4/19), from 7 AM to 5 PM, motorists should anticipate 15-minute intermittent holds on both eastbound and westbound I-70 approaching Exit 116. These holds are necessary for safety critical overhead work over I-70 for the new traffic bridge

Grand Avenue Bridge Updates:
I-70 Exit 116 Eastbound On-Ramp Closures
The I-70 Exit 116 eastbound on-ramp will be CLOSED from 6 AM to 9 AM, Monday through Friday, through April. Motorists are advised to use westbound I-70 to Exit 114 and turn around at the interchange.

I-70 Exit 114 Roundabout Work (April – June)
The I-70 Exit 114 roundabout work continues for the next serval months. Morning delays are anticipated in the Exit 114 interchange. Metering will take place during the morning peak travel hours.

During peak morning hours (7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.), anticipate delays at the I-70 Exit 114 interchange. Commuters are advised to use I-70 Exit 116 or shift their schedules when possible.

I-70 Exit 114 Eastbound Off-Ramp Reduced to One-lane
The I-70 Exit 114 eastbound off-ramp will be reduced to one-lane as crews work on improvements to the interchange.
I-70 Approaching Exit 116 Lane Closures
Both eastbound and westbound I-70 approaching Exit 116 will be reduced to one-lane. These lane closures will be in place through April as crews complete safety critical overhead work on the new steel girders.
